Licensed Mechanical Engineer - HVAC/MEP

We are seeking an experienced Licensed Mechanical Engineer (PE) with expertise in HVAC and MEP system design for commercial and institutional buildings. This is a hands-on engineering position focused on the design, analysis, and documentation of mechanical systems—not project management.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in mechanical building system design and will serve as the Engineer of Record , leading projects from concept through construction while collaborating with architects, engineers, and construction teams. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of healthcare, commercial, municipal, institutional, veterinary, and other specialized facilities.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC and mechanical building systems for commercial and institutional projects.
• Perform engineering calculations, HVAC load analyses, and equipment selection.
• Prepare construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Serve as the Engineer of Record , providing technical oversight throughout the design process.
• Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and other engineering disciplines.
• Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and other construction-phase documentation.
• Conduct field investigations, site visits, and construction observations as required.
• Resolve design and constructability challenges by developing practical engineering solutions.
• Support commissioning, inspections, punch-list activities, and project closeout.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, industry standards, and client requirements.
• Maintain a high level of technical accuracy and quality throughout all phases of project delivery.

Requirements

• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience; 10+ years preferred.
• Strong experience designing HVAC and MEP systems for commercial buildings.
• Experience with healthcare, municipal, institutional, veterinary, or similarly complex facilities is preferred.
• Proficiency in engineering calculations, HVAC load analysis, equipment selection, and construction documentation.
• Strong knowledge of applicable mechanical codes, standards, and engineering best practices.
• Ability to independently develop, review, and seal engineering designs.
• Excellent technical, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary design teams.
• Hands-on mechanical design experience is required.
• Candidates whose background is primarily project management without significant engineering design responsibilities will not be considered.
