Our client, a Global Healthcare and Crop Science Innovation company, is seeking a Safety Officer – Warehouse to join their team. The Safety Officer will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant workplace within the warehouse by implementing HSE programs, ensuring legal and company policy compliance, identifying hazards, preventing incidents, and fostering a proactive safety culture.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Bayer HSE policies, procedures, and local occupational health and safety legislation.
- Monitor warehouse operations to verify that safe work practices are followed.
- Conduct routine workplace inspections and audits.
- Ensure corrective actions from inspections and audits are implemented and closed out.
Risk Assessment & Hazard Management
- Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and risk assessments for warehouse activities.
- Identify unsafe conditions and unsafe acts and implement corrective measures.
- Maintain risk registers and track mitigation actions.
- Participate in management of change and hazard review processes.
Incident Management
- Investigate accidents, near misses, safety observations, and environmental incidents.
- Determine root causes and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor implementation and effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Maintain incident records and prepare reports.
Warehouse Safety Management
- Monitor forklift operations and pedestrian safety.
- Ensure safe stacking, storage, loading, and unloading practices.
- Verify housekeeping standards and 5S implementation.
- Ensure emergency exits, fire extinguishers, spill kits, and first aid equipment remain accessible and functional.
- Monitor contractor activities and compliance with site safety requirements.
Training & Safety Culture
- Conduct HSE inductions for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and awareness campaigns.
- Promote reporting of safety observations and near misses.
- Support safety committees and employee engagement initiatives.
- Coach supervisors and employees on safe work practices.
Emergency Preparedness
- Support emergency response planning and drills.
- Participate in fire prevention, evacuation exercises, and incident response activities.
- Ensure emergency equipment inspections are completed and documented.
- Coordinate with emergency response teams during incidents.
Environmental Management
- Monitor waste management, chemical handling, and spill prevention activities.
- Ensure environmental permits and controls are followed.
- Participate in environmental inspections and reporting.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Formal HSE training/ OHS certification
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in warehouse, logistics, manufacturing, or agricultural operations.
- Proven experience in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
- Sound knowledge of OSHA/ISO 45001 principles and local HSE legislation.
- Understanding of warehouse safety practices, including forklift operations, material handling, and storage.
