Make Every Pet's Stay a Positive Experience
Do you enjoy working with animals and take pride in providing exceptional care? North Airline Animal Hospital is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and detail-oriented Kennel Assistant to join our team full-time! This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on animal care, takes pride in maintaining a clean and comfortable environment, and understands the importance of helping pets feel safe while away from home.
As a Kennel Assistant, you will play an important role in caring for our boarding pets and supporting the daily operations of our veterinary hospital. From providing attentive daily care and monitoring pets for changes in behavior to maintaining sanitary accommodations and welcoming pet owners, you will help ensure every animal receives the attention, comfort, and care they deserve.
If you're reliable, attentive to detail, and passionate about animal welfare, we'd love to meet you!
- Provide daily animal care: Feed and water dogs and cats according to established schedules and individual care instructions. Assist with walks, exercise, enrichment, and other daily activities to support each pet's comfort and well-being.
- Admit and identify patients: Assist with boarding check-in, verify pet identification, review care instructions, and help ensure each animal's needs are clearly communicated to the team.
- Monitor pet health and behavior: Observe appetite, activity, demeanor, and overall condition. Promptly report unusual behavior, signs of illness, injury, or other concerns to the appropriate veterinary team member.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation: Clean and disinfect kennels, runs, animal housing areas, and assigned hospital spaces. Complete laundry, replenish supplies, and maintain an organized, sanitary environment.
- Assist with bathing and discharge preparation: Provide baths and basic grooming as appropriate, ensuring pets are clean, comfortable, and ready to return home.
- Deliver excellent client service: Communicate professionally and courteously with pet owners, answer routine questions within the scope of the role, and help clients feel confident in the care their pets receive.
- Support boarding tours and admissions: Help introduce clients to our hospital and boarding facilities, explain routine boarding procedures, and contribute to a welcoming client experience.
- Work collaboratively with the hospital team: Follow written and verbal instructions, communicate important patient care information, assist with daily operational needs, and contribute to a positive, team-oriented workplace.
- A genuine passion for animal care and a commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of pets.
- Dependability, punctuality, and a strong sense of personal responsibility.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- The ability to prioritize tasks, stay productive, and adapt to changing needs in a fast-paced veterinary or pet boarding environment.
- Professional communication skills and a friendly, service-oriented approach when interacting with pet owners and coworkers.
- The ability to safely handle dogs and cats of varying sizes, temperaments, and activity levels, with appropriate training and support.
- A team-first attitude and willingness to assist with animal care, cleaning, laundry, and other essential daily responsibilities.
- Availability to work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
Previous experience in a veterinary hospital, animal shelter, kennel, pet boarding facility, dog daycare, or animal care setting is a plus. Candidates with a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
This is an active, hands-on position in a veterinary hospital and boarding environment. Team members should be comfortable standing and walking for extended periods, bending, reaching, cleaning, and working around dogs and cats throughout the day. The role may involve lifting and carrying pet food, laundry, supplies, and animals, as well as exposure to animal hair and dander, cleaning and disinfecting products, and routine animal care activities.
At North Airline Animal Hospital, the care you provide makes a difference every day. From keeping pets comfortable during their stay to helping families feel confident leaving their companions in your care, you'll play an important role in creating a safe, positive experience for every animal who walks through our doors.
Join a team where your reliability, compassion, and attention to detail matter. You'll have the opportunity to develop your animal care skills, build relationships with fellow veterinary professionals, and grow your experience in a supportive hospital environment.
