_About the role_
As a Teacher at Corner School, you’ll play a key role in our close-knit school community, supporting a small group of children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. This is a really meaningful opportunity to make a difference every day, helping children overcome barriers to learning and build confidence in themselves.
You’ll plan, teach and assess learning for up to 6 children in your class, working closely with your class team, other teachers and the School Leadership Team. You’ll also guide and support your class-based staff team, creating a calm, structured and nurturing environment where children can feel safe and ready to learn.
The current vacancy is for a class of pupils in Years 3 & 4, who are all new to the school this academic year. There are currently 4 pupils in the class, but this could rise to a maximum of 6. We are looking for an experienced teacher who can join the positive, energetic, experienced team currently supporting this class. The position is currently vacant so we are particularly interested in hearing from teachers who would be available to take up the role in January 2027 or sooner, but will consider applications from the right candidate for a later start date.
_We’ll look to you to_
- Plan and deliver engaging, tailored lessons that reflect each child’s needs, strengths and stage of learning
- Build strong, respectful relationships with children, supporting their wellbeing and progress
- Lead and support your class team (HLTA and Teaching Assistant), guiding their day-to-day work
- Work closely with colleagues across the school, including other teachers, therapists and the leadership team
- Take a trauma-aware approach, supporting children to regulate, engage and build resilience
- In line with training (provided), use safe holds/restrictive physical intervention if a pupil is unsafe towards themselves or others, or causing damage to property
- Maintain high expectations for behaviour, encouraging independence and self-control
- Keep clear and accurate records of children’s progress and learning
- Work in partnership with families and other professionals to support each child holistically
- Contribute to wider school life, including trips, assemblies and events
- Continuously reflect on and develop your own teaching practice through CPD
_We’ll care for you too_
You’ll join a caring, collaborative team who value each other’s strengths and well-being. You’ll have access to excellent training, reflective practice and a wide range of staff benefits, including:
- Competitive salary
- Teachers pension scheme
- Funded CPD (Continuing Professional Development)
- Cash Health Plan
- Employee Assistance Programme (24/7 support & counselling)
- Enhanced family leave and sick pay
- Inclusive, trauma-informed working culture with strong wellbeing support
_About you_
You’ll be a thoughtful, resilient and compassionate teacher who is motivated to make a genuine difference in children’s lives. You’ll be comfortable working in a small, collaborative setting, able to take initiative while also valuing teamwork, reflection and shared learning. You’ll bring patience, creativity and a calm approach, especially when working with children who may need extra support to feel safe, regulated and ready to learn.
You’ll also bring:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience teaching primary-aged children, including planning, assessment and target setting
- Experience teaching phonics and supporting early reading development
- Experience in a SEMH provision (eg special school, nurture room, ARP)
- A strong understanding of the National Curriculum (KS1 and KS2)
- A good understanding of how children learn, including the impact of trauma and adverse experiences
- Confidence working with other professionals and communicating with families
- The ability to lead, support and develop others within a class team
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your workload effectively
- A reflective, open approach to learning and professional development
- A good level of IT skills to support teaching and record-keeping
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience in a mainstream school or EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage)
- Experience working with vulnerable families or multi-agency teams
- Additional training in SEN or trauma-informed practice
_About Corner School_
Corner School is a small, specialist day school for primary-aged children with SEMH needs. We provide a safe, nurturing environment with small classes, high staff ratios and a trauma-informed, sensory-aware approach. Our curriculum is imaginative and personalised, helping each child grow in confidence, build meaningful relationships and feel proud of their progress.
Therapeutic work is integrated throughout the school day, with close collaboration between teaching staff and on-site therapists. We work closely with families to create consistent, holistic support around each child.
Corner School is part of The Mulberry Bush, a nationally recognised therapeutic charity supporting children who have experienced early trauma. While we operate as a day school with our own identity and approach, being part of the Mulberry Bush offers rich professional development, reflective practice and a wider community of expertise.
