Pay: $24 per hour

Schedule: Three one-hour sessions per week

Location: In-person tutoring in the student's home

Position: Part-time, long-term assignment

Tutor Doctor Michigan is seeking a patient, encouraging tutor with special education experience to support a first-grade student in reading, math, and writing. The family is looking for a consistent, long-term tutor who can build a strong connection with their child while helping him develop foundational skills and confidence.

The student is a happy, social 7-year-old who loves school, enjoys math, and has a strong interest in baseball, football, and other sports. He has developmental delays and benefits from hands-on instruction, additional processing time, movement breaks, and positive reinforcement. Speech and fine motor challenges may require adjustments to activities, particularly tasks involving extended writing.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized, in-home tutoring three times per week.
• Build rapport and incorporate the student's interests into engaging, multisensory lessons.
• Complete initial Tutor Doctor reading and math benchmark assessments, breaking assessments into shorter segments as needed.
• Identify learning gaps and provide targeted instruction in foundational reading, math, and writing.
• Adapt instruction to accommodate developmental needs, processing time, and writing fatigue.
• Monitor progress, adjust lessons, and submit detailed session reports.
• Review available school assessment results and IEP or 504 recommendations.
• Communicate with the family and Tutor Doctor team and coordinate with the student's teacher when parental permission is provided.

Qualifications

• Special education experience and experience working with young elementary students are required.
• Experience supporting students with developmental delays.
• Strong knowledge of early literacy and foundational math instruction.
• Ability to use structured, hands-on activities and adapt lessons to individual learning needs.
• Patient, dependable, encouraging, and a clear communicator.
• Ability to travel to Clinton Township, MI 48038 and maintain a consistent, long-term schedule.

Availability

The family's availability is flexible on most days except Wednesdays. Saturdays and Sunday afternoons are also options. A consistent schedule of three one-hour sessions per week will be coordinated with the family.
