Role objective
The Registered Nurse ensures every patient's safety and comfort while at BeaconHealth — taking vitals and conducting physical examinations, running screening tests such as ECG, spirometry, and audiometry, and preparing patients for further diagnostic procedures. This role sits at the point where clinical safety and patient experience meet: the confidence a patient feels walking into a scan or a blood draw often comes down to how they were prepared and reassured beforehand. Patient records and clinical documentation run through BeaconOS, our own platform, which you will be trained on during onboarding.
Key responsibilities
Reporting to the Center Manager, responsibilities include:
Physical examinations and diagnostic screening
- Conduct physical examinations and record vitals (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, weight, height, BMI, etc.)
- Perform ECG (electrocardiogram) tests and ensure tracings are clear and correctly labelled for physician review
- Perform spirometry (lung function) tests, guiding patients through the breathing technique required for an accurate reading
- Perform audiometry (hearing) tests in a properly controlled environment
- Flag any abnormal readings promptly to the Center Manager or reviewing physician
Patient care and preparation
- Prepare and position patients for radiology, cardiology, and laboratory procedures, explaining what to expect in clear, reassuring language
- Provide chaperone support during examinations where required, particularly for sensitive procedures
- Administer basic treatments (e.g., wound dressing) within scope of practice and clinic protocol
Clinical safety and emergency response
- Recognize and respond to adverse reactions or emergencies during procedures (e.g., contrast reactions, fainting), initiating first aid and escalating promptly to the Center Manager or referring physician
- Maintain and stock emergency response equipment and medications, checking expiry and readiness regularly
- Ensure infection prevention and control protocols are followed at all times
Patient education and experience
- Explain procedure preparation instructions (e.g., fasting, hydration) and aftercare to patients
- Address patient questions or concerns about tests, and liaise with the Medical Laboratory Scientist, Radiographer, or Center Manager as needed
- Support specimen collection and labelling where required, working alongside the laboratory team
Documentation and compliance
- Maintain accurate, timely patient clinical records in BeaconOS
- Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, safety standards, and patient confidentiality at all times
- Support audits and quality checks related to patient care delivery
Requirements
- Registered Nurse (RN) qualification — Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Nursing
- Current and valid licence to practise from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN)
- Completion of NYSC or valid exemption
- Minimum of 0 - 2 years' post-licence clinical experience, preferably in a hospital, clinic, or diagnostic setting
- Sound knowledge of patient vitals, basic emergency response, and infection control practices
- Competence in conducting physical examinations and administering ECG, spirometry, and audiometry tests (or demonstrated ability to be trained quickly on these during onboarding)
- Rigorous approach to documentation, patient safety, and confidentiality
- Computer literate and comfortable working in a digital record system — we train every new hire on BeaconOS, our own clinical platform, during onboarding
Preferred
- Experience working in a diagnostic, radiology, or outpatient clinical setting, including occupational health or executive medical screening
- Prior hands-on experience performing ECG, spirometry, or audiometry
- Phlebotomy or specimen-collection experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or similar emergency response certification
- Fluency in the local language spoken by patients at this clinic
